executive vice president and general manager, Pioneer Electric, wants everyone to join the cooperative and its affiliate, Acme Propane, in Alabama's biggest effort ever to fight cancer.

"Our board of trustees and employees have teamed up to do a lot of things for the communities we serve – services beyond providing electricity, like supplying public water and helping businesses create jobs," Chandler said, "But we want to band together like never before to ask each of our members and customers to join Pioneer and Acme employees in the local fight against cancer."

Fifteen electric cooperatives from across Central, West and South Alabama, in addition to northwest Florida, have already come together to sponsor Relay for Life events in the areas they serve. Although the total sponsorship contribution is $240,000, it only represents an average contribution per co-op member of less than twenty-five cents.

"We're asking all of our customers to consider giving any amount that they can give. However, those customers who give five dollars or more will be entered into a drawing for $1,000 worth of free appliances from Acme Propane," Chandler said.

Locally, Pioneer Electric Cooperative and Acme Propane are the sponsors of the Relay For Life event in Greenville, May 11, and the one in Selma May 18.
