Monday night was a milestone into the season for the Greenville Parks and Recreation Department, as both the women's league and men's church league began playing, at Dunbar Park.

In the first game of the night for the ladies, First Lowndes defeated by S & E Safety, 10-4.

Topping of the scoring for S & E was Jody Dean, with three hits, scoring two runs.

She was followed by Wanda Aheire and Sandy Salter with two hits and one run each, then it was Leigh McCraney with one hit and one run.

For First Lowndes led Lynn Norris with a homerun, Deanna Brown with three hits and one run, followed by Christy Burkett with two hits and one run, and Lynn Brady with one hit and one run.

Next on the field was Crowne Jewel facing Ever Ready. The Energizer bunny would have been proud of the score, 18-3 in favor of Ever Ready.

Leading scorers for the winning team were LaFreda Savage with three hits and two runs. Melody Patterson and Denise Bailey each had two hits and two runs, then it was Tina Meriweather with one hit and three runs.

For Crowne Jewel, Christie Cauthen, Tina Williams and Donna Lassic each had one hit and one run, followed by Quashonda Boggan with one hit.

In the men's church league, the first game saw Mills Chapel over College Street, 31-20.

For Mills, Rick Stuckey led with five hits and five runs, followed by Bryant Hallford with five hits and four runs.

Jason Smith was next with four hits and runs, then it was Wendell Tolbert with four hits and two runs.

For College Street Demetrius Simpson led with four hits and three runs, followed by Ronald Boggan and Tyrone Davidson each with four hits and two runs, and Terrence Powell made three hits with one run.

In game two for the men, Harrison Street dominated over Southside, 23-4.

Joshua Smith, Willie Smith and Wes Robinson were the top scorers, with three hits and runs a piece to Harrison Street's credit.

For Southside, Brandon Till led with two hits and runs, followed by Bean Newton and Kris Findley each with two hits and one run.
