Thirty-five golfers gathered at Cambrian Ridge on Wednesday afternoon for the Butler County chapter of the Troy State Alumni Association.

The weather outlook had people worried earlier in the day, but despite two rain delays, the tournament was a success, and game play was swift in the five-man-scramble.

Funds raised at the golf tournament are used to provide TSU scholarships to area outstanding students.

Last year, the Butler County chapter of TSU Alumni provided scholarships for five students, and they hope to be able to do the same again this year.

After four hours of play, the golfers gathered at the big scoreboard long enough to watch the scores be totalled.

Following the completion of the scoring, the golfers joined other Alumni members in the clubhouse, where awards were presented.

First place in the tournament was the team of Rhett Idland, Ward Thigpen, Joey Johnson, Mike Spivey and Jeremy Powell (wide receiver coach at TSU), with a net score of 53.1 .

Second place honors went to the team of Ronnie Idland, Larry Salter, Dexter McClendon, Josh McClendon and Johnny Williams, athletic director at TSU.

Longest Drives on selected holes went to: Lance Tatum of Montgomery on Sherling number 8 and Mints McGowin of Greenville on Loblolly 7.

Closest-to-the-pin awards were presented to: Jim Dye, offensive line coach at TSU (and nephew of former Auburn Head Football Coach Pat Dye) for the Loblolly 6 and Chuck Faulkner of Selma for the Sherling number 4.
