In two separate incidents, an attempted robbery and a robbery took place on July 4 according to police reports.

At 12:25 a.m., the owner of McBride Chevron at 100 College Street walked out of the store carrying the money when an unknown black male came from around the corner of the building, police reports say.

The suspect pointed a handgun at the owner and demanded the money, and then, the owner refused and ran across the street to get away, according to police reports. The suspect went back down the alley where he came from, reports indicate.

Police reports indicate that according to a witness, a brown vehicle was parked across the street from Jordan's Hilltop during the time of the attempted robbery.

Major Fred Hilliard said the suspect vehicle was later apprehended and found to not be involved in the incident.

Police reports describe the suspect as being a black male, 5'8" tall weighing about 165 lbs. Reports also say the suspect has black eyes and hair and was wearing a beige cap at the time of the attempted robbery.

In a separate incident, a robbery took place at the Greenville Chevron at 938 Fort Dale Road around 3:40 a.m., according to police reports.

Police reports indicate that the female cashier said an unknown black male wearing a blue bandanna over his face ran into the store and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at her. Reports say that he demanded all the cash in the drawer. After receiving an unknown amount of assorted checks and currency, he ran out of the store heading toward Butler Square. Police reports indicate no vehicle description was given.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue bandanna and gray sweatshirt at the time of the robbery.

Hilliard said there appears to be no connection between the two incidents, and both are still under investigation.
