The Yankees took over the top position in the Dixie Majors League last week after defeating the White Sox and watching as the Red Sox were forced to forfeit a game, putting a one game cushion between the two teams.

The Yankees used a 9-6 victory over the White Sox to separate them from the other teams in the league.

Jerome Viers got things going for the Yankees in the top of the first inning as he led off the game with a walk. Justin Kimbro followed with a double to left field to put both runners in scoring position. The next batter, Josh Beverly, lined a pitch into rightfield to drive both runners in and give the Yanks a 2-0 lead. The Sox gave up a walk to David Albert to put runners at first and second. Josh Till added to the Yankees lead with a one-out basehit to score Beverly and Albert. Till also scored in the inning to give the Yankees a 5-0 lead.

The Yankees added another run in the top of the second inning as Viers walked and moved around the basepaths to score on a groundball by Albert,

making the score 6-0.

But, the White Sox warmed up in the bottom of the third inning as Bill Cates led off the inning with a homerun for their first score of the game.

With one out in the inning, Elijah Freeman slapped a basehit followed by a walk by Dustin Holt. Adam Robertson brought Freeman home with a basehit to leftfield. Evan Brook did the rest of the damage with a two-out basehit to score Holt and Robertson. By the end of the inning the White Sox had cut the lead to 6-4.

Neither team scored in the fourth, but the Yankees added another in the top of the fifth as Beverly reached on an interference call and then scored later in the inning on an error to increase the Yankees' lead to 7-4.

In the top of the seventh the Yankees attempted to put the game away as Kimbro and Beverly scored to give the Yanks a five-point lead, 9-4.

But, in their last chance, the White Sox got something going as Holt earned a walk with one out. The next batter, Robertson, jolted a pitch over the outfielder's heads for a two-run homer to cut the lead to 9-6 with one out. Greg Gallenger kept the hope alive as he followed with another basehit. But, the inning came to a close without any other batters getting aboard.

William Phillips earned the win for the Yankees on the mound, striking out three batters.

White Sox 21, Rockies 6

It wasn't all bad for the White Sox last week as they earned their first win of the season in grand fashion, slaughtering the Rockies by a final count of 21-6 in three innings of play.

The Rockies held the first lead as they scored five runs in the top of the first. With one out, Michael Holleyfield lined a double to centerfield. Then with two outs, the Rockies' Bo Tucker earned a walk. Steven Sorrells then lined a basehit to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead. Another walk to Drew Gafford loaded the bases for L. Jones who lined a double to score Owens and Sorrells. Another double off the bat of Ryan Duke completed the damage in the first as Gafford and Jones scored to give the Rockies a 5-0 lead.

The White Sox put themselves on the board in the bottom of the inning as Bill Cates lined a single with one out. With two outs in the inning, Adam Robertson slapped an RBI double and scored later in the inning on a basehit by Evan Brook to make the score 5-2.

The Rockies came right back in the top of the second with another run as Holleyfield scored on a double by Sorrells, making the score 6-2.

From there, it was all White Sox. Mal Winters led off the bottom of the second with a single and B. Pope followed with a walk. J. Smith lined a single to centerfield that brought Winters home. With one out in the inning, Cates lined a double to left field, scoring Pope, and Greg Gallenger followed with a two-RBI basehit to tie the game at 6-6. Robertson gave the Sox their first lead with a triple that brought Gallenger home. Another basehit by Brook gave the White Sox an 8-6 lead.

The Rockies were unable to score in the top of the third and the White Sox came out swinging again in their half of the inning.

Three consecutive walks to Pope, Smith and Andrew Brooks loaded the bases for Cates who lined a ground ball for an RBI and the first out of the inning. With two on, Gallenger lifted the ball over the fence for a homerun and a 12-6 lead. But, the Sox weren't done as Robertson walked, followed by

consecutive singles by Brook and Dustin Holt. With two on, the White Sox hit their second homer of the inning as Winters went deep to increase the lead to 16-6. The White Sox continued to round the bases until Gallenger brought in the last run as the White Sox took a 15-point lead and the game was called.

Robertson earned the win on the mound for the Sox, striking out four batters in three innings of work.

Red Sox 18, Rockies 10

The Red Sox lost their lead in the Dixie Majors League over the past two weeks, but an 18-10 win over the Rockies helped them keep pace and remain within striking distance of the Yankees.

Adam Moore led off the game with a walk for the Red Sox and scored the only run of the inning on a basehit by Chris Moses.

Neither team scored again until the Red Sox' half of the third inning. Moore led off the third with a single and was driven home on a double off the bat of Ashley Lakes. Jon Wright came through with another single

and Moses earned a walk to load the bases for Tony Norris who lined a two-RBI basehit. After two outs were recorded, Thomas Wright and Joseph Ryan lined back-to-back singles to make the score, 5-0. Another walk, this one to Kraig Jones, loaded the bases once again and Moore made it count with a three-RBI double down the leftfield line. Lakes got his second RBI of the inning with a triple. He later scored on a double by Moses to give the Red Sox a 10-0 lead.

But, the Rockies were not out of the game. Steven Sorrells and Drew Gafford led off the bottom of the third with consecutive walks. Ryan Duke followed by getting aboard on an error. With one out and bases loaded, two walks to Michael Holleyfield and Brian Owens put the Rockies on the board. A single by Marshall Watts drove Duke home. Bo Tucker followed with another single to score Holleyfield and Owens and Jason Shaw completed the scoring with a double that sent Watts home, cutting the Red Sox' lead to 10-6.

The Sox got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth as Wright scored on a basehit by Kraig Jones to make the score 11-6.

They continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning as Moses, Tony Norris, Bryan Little, Wright, Ryan, Moore and Lakes scored to make the score 18-6

With only one inning to tie the game, the Rockies got a rally going as Brian Owens led off the inning with a double. Watts followed with a walk and Tucker came through with an RBI single. Another single by Jason Shaw scored Watts to make the score 18-8. Sorrells kept the Rockies' hopes alive with a walk that loaded the bases. Gafford brought Tucker and Shaw home with a single to leftfield. But, the next three batters were all victims of the strikeout as the Red Sox preserved the victory by a final score of 18-10.
