In a week of close games in the Dixie Youth League, the Orioles edged the Reds by one run on May 19 to remain in striking distance of the league-leading, undefeated Tigers.

Propelled by a three-run third inning, the Orioles defeated the Reds by a final score of 6-4.

The Reds, who are still searching for their first win of the season, took the lead in the first inning. With two outs and nobody on, Justin Hester hit a triple and then scored on a fielding error to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the third inning. The Orioles' Conyers Poole and John Lewis Golson earned back-to-back walks and advanced around the bases on a series of wild pitches to take their first lead of the game, 2-0. With one out, Jack Daughtery earned a walk and he came home on a homerun by Reco Johnson which made the score 4-1.

The Reds came right back in the top of the fourth as the leadoff hitter, Demonte Crenshaw, smacked a homer to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

The Orioles got that run back in the bottom of the inning as Zack McCain score to make the score 5-2.

Clay Mitton and McDonald Russell got the Reds off to a good start in the fifth inning as both batters reached on errors. The next batter, Chad Black then drove in

the runners with a double to make it a one-run ball game, 5-4.

Johnson got his third RBI of the game in the fifth for the Orioles as he drove Jack Daughtery, who had hit a double, home to lift their lead to 6-4.

The Reds led off the sixth with two baserunners, but were unable to bring them home as Orioles' pitcher Golson stuck out the two final batters of the inning.

Golson earned the win and struck out a total of 10 Reds.

Tigers 5, Braves 3

The Tigers' record remained perfect last week as they pulled out a two-run victory with a last inning homerun to lift them over the Braves, 5-3.

David Moore got things going for the Tigers in the first inning with a two-out homerun for the first score of the game.

But, the Braves took the lead in the top of the second inning. David Stephenson led off with a base hit. After two outs were made, Jonathan Giddens gave his team the lead with a homerun to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.

The Braves added another run in the fourth inning as Brady Newton scored, making the score 3-1.

The Tigers trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth as D. Moore scored on a base hit by Jake Newton.

The Tigers were six outs away from their first defeat of the season as the score remained the same. But, Caleb Blackburn led off the bottom of the sixth by reaching on a fielding error. Adam Moore followed with a basehit to put the tying runs on base. D. Moore, who had accounted for all the Tigers' RBIs in the game, saved the Tigers' perfect record with a three-run homer, securing a 5-3 victory.

D. Moore not only performed at the plate, but he also earned the victory on the mound. He struck out 14 Braves.

Braves 6, Diamondbacks 5

The Braves also scored a late-inning comeback last week. They fell behind to the Diamondbacks but scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to edge out a 6-5 victory.

The Diamondbacks jumped on top in the first inning as Steven Tilley scored on a double hit by Ben Coker and Douglas Oliver scored on a basehit by Mika Jones.

The Diamondbacks held a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second, when the Braves cut the lead. With two outs, Stephen Croley reached on a basehit and went to third on consecutive wild pitches. He scored on a basehit by Jonathan Giddens to make the score 2-1.

The D'backs' Tilley scored in the top of the third to stretch their lead back to two runs, 3-1.

The Braves came right back in the bottom of the inning as Brady Newton drove home David Stephenson to cut the lead back to 3-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Braves took their first lead of the game as Cory Johnson and Croley came around to make the score 4-3.

Tilley and Scott Varner earned walks in the top of the fifth for the D'backs and Oliver drove them home to retake the lead, 5-4.

But, the Braves came right back in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Newton and Wes Presley scored the tying and winning runs respectively.

Stephenson earned the victory for the Braves. He struck out ten D'backs.

Tigers 5, Reds 0

The Tigers began last week with a dominating performance over the Reds, 5-0.

Caleb Blackburn earned a shutout victory as he struck out twelve batters.

The Tigers' Eric Howard scored the first run of the game after belting a double on a sacrifice fly by Adam Moore.

Blackburn scored the second run of the game in the fourth inning.

The Tigers added some insurance runs in the top of the sixth as Howard and A. Moore scored on a triple by David Moore. Moore also scored in the inning to make the final score 5-0.
