Hurricane awareness saves lives

Hurricane Awareness Week, declared by Gov. Don Siegelman as May 22-26, is a good way for those in the community to prepare for a possible hurricane hitting the coast this hurricane season, which begins June 1. Although Butler County is usually not in the path of a hurricane, if one strong enough hits the coast, this area could possibly sustain as much damage as coastal areas would. Be as prepared for a tropical storm or hurricane as one would prepare for a tornado or blizzard and have a plan of action already mapped out. It could save the lives of many.
