Support Relay For Life

Joe Pouncey has the right idea. And, he is willing to put his hair on the line to prove it. Pouncey who is participating in his first Relay For Life event has said he will shave his head into a Mohawk if he is successful in raising the $2,000 goal he has set.

However, Pouncey is not the only giving soul in Butler County willing to go the extra mile for this worth while cause and it will take the efforts of every one of us if the Butler County chapter of the American Cancer Society is going to raise the county-wide goal of $100,000.

The team from Cracker Barrel is sponsoring a rock-a-thon on April 18 on the front porch of the restaurant, and several area schools have already begun sponsoring fund raising events that are keeping their teams in action.

The Greenville Advocate is also sponsoring a team. And, between now and the first of May, all subscriptions to The Advocate will be selling for a $10 discount. We also will donate $10 to Relay For Life to help us achieve our goal of $1,000.

The American Cancer Society is one of the most necessary charities

to which one could give. Not only does the organization finance cancer research all over the nation, but it also provides funds to cancer patients in the local area to help relieve some of the expense of treating this dreaded disease.

Last year, Butler County was in the top 10 fund raising areas of its size across the nation. This says a lot for the generosity of our citizens, and hopefully the trend will continue.

A lot of people in this area have friends or loved ones that have faced a battle with cancer. Some have won the battle and some have lost, but with each sacrifice made, a lot of ground has been won in the war against cancer.

So support this year's Relay For Life. Not only does the money raised go to support a worthy cause, it is also good family fun.

Each team will be setting up a camp with the theme of movies, and will be decorating the area and wearing costumes that relate to the theme.

We invite the community to stop by the mock "Ritz Theatre" which is being jointly sponsored by The Greenville Advocate, Greenville Mainstreet and the Greenville Rotarians. A free bag of popcorn and a relaxing movie on the big screen will be just what it takes to put some pep back in the step of Relay For Lifers.

When someone comes up and asks for a donation to the Relay For Life, give as much as you can as often as you can. The small donation can make a big difference.
