The Fort Dale Academy Eagles' baseball team got back into its winning ways this past week in important region games against Meadowview Christian School and Lowndes Academy.

On Tuesday, the Eagles' bats came to life as they scored 24 runs. Mal Winters pitched another no-hitter for FDA and struck out seven of the batters he faced.

The Eagles wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. In the first inning, they scored five runs on seven hits. Back-to-back doubles by Todd Nicholas and Dustin Holt helped lead the Eagles to the big inning.

In the second inning, Meadowview had troubles on defense as they committed three errors. FDA also took advantage of two walks and a couple of hit batters as they scored ten runs in the inning off only five hits, to make the score 15-0 after two innings.

FDA scored seven runs in the third off seven hits. Josh Smith and Bill Cates hit back-to-back doubles in the big inning, giving their team a 22-0 lead.

The Eagles went on to score two more runs in the final two innings as the game was ended after five innings.

Leading hitters for the Eagles were Robert Rainey, Adam Robertson, Smith, Cates, Nicholas and Holt.

On Thursday, the Eagles traveled to face Lowndes Academy. Marshal Watts pitched another shutout as FDA earned a 3-0 win.

The Eagles scored one run in the third, one in the fourth and another in the seventh.

Watts finished the game with 12 strikeouts.

FDA Head Baseball Coach Jim Brantley said it was good to see his team come out ready to play after a poor showing in a tournament during spring break.

"I was very pleased that we did not give up any runs. Our defense stood up and played well for us and we were able to score some runs. These wins were very important ones for us because they were both region games," Brantley said.

The Eagles edged closer to a playoff berth as they have yet to lose a region game; however, Morgan Academy has only lost one.

FDA's overall record now stands at 15-5 on the season.

They played Mobile Christian on Friday evening and they take on intra-city rival Greenville Academy Tuesday at Beeland Park at 3:30 p.m.
