Greenville girl injured in accidental shooting

A nine year-old girl was accidently injured by her older brother when a gun the two had allegedly been looking at went off.

Anita Paydon Speir, of Fort Dale Road was taken to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital at approximately 9:50 p.m. last Friday evening where she was treated. Police said that the wound was not life-threatening.

Both the victim and her brother, James Vanburn Speir, Jr., a 15 year-old, said they where moving the gun when it went off. The father of the children said the weapon, a Colt Frontier Scout .22 caliber pistol, was not kept loaded inside the house and that his son may have loaded it. He also told officers that the shooting had to have been accidental.
