The Builders Club at Greenville Middle School collected 150 books and donated them to Cracker Barrel in Greenville this past Labor Day weekend.

The students gave the books for the children of Greenville to enjoy as part of a nationwide book drive sponsored by the

restaurant.

Cracker Barrel's neighborhood book drive was conducted in partnership with country music star Faith Hill and her Family Literacy Project, the national health alliance-V.H.A., Inc. and America's Promise-The Alliance for Youth which is an organization led by Army General Colin Powell. It is dedicated to strenghtening the character and competence of our nation's youth.

Books were being distributed to schools, libraries and non-profit organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA. These organizations are working to prevent illiteracy in America.

The book drive was part of the restaurant's 30th anniversary this past summer. The drive benefitted children's literacy programs. The August book drive sought to collect one million books nationwide. Linda Daniel, coordinator at the Greenville restaurant, collected some 500 books.

Participants were Lakiesha Smith, Frank Moorer, Dejuan Timmons, Fontana Stintson, Carrie Sellers, Heather Newton, Shayla Bullock, James Duncan and Latoya Patterson.
