BF2C1- you seem to have such a firm grasp on all things topical, why don't YOU run for the BOE?
What you don't seem to understand is that MANY of our children are reading in Kindergarten now! Most children who continue to have problems have learning disabilities, or have poor parental support, and just don't care. We here in Butler County don't have to go outside the country to find qualified teachers, we have them right here. Granted my children have had some stinkers along the way, (very few) but way back when I was in school, I had some stinkers too! Is it acceptable, no, are we trying to fix that problem? yes. My kids are getting an education that I would put up against any in this state. I mean that. Do we have some of the same problems that are happening in society all over the country? You bet. The schools are doing their jobs, above and BEYOND, it is time for the community to do theirs. GET INVOLVED. Every meeting I attend regarding the schools, the same people are there every time. The same people support the athletics, the same people support the PTA/PTO. If you want to gripe, go ahead, but share with us what you have also done to make things better. So my point BF2C1 is this, instead of complaining and criticizing, get off of your computer and do something!!
One more thing, GHS is better than it has been in a long time. Dr. Farmer and his entire staff have brought that school back to the glory days of old, (as much is allowed). To borrow a phrase from our football coach, BACK AND BETTER. To the BOE, recognize the tremendous strides this school has made in the last few years, instead of belittling them in public. We have AWESOME leaders in all of our schools, and the BOE needs to recognize that and look within itself for faults. I highly recommend a full length mirror.

I knew this would come down to race. I don't care if our Superintendent is black, white, yellow, or green, as long as he is fair and honest, and smart, what I DO care about is that our board has picked FOUR names from a pool of 20 candidates, three men, and a token female. Could we not have picked a few more, then narrowed, then narrowed again? See: Tennessee hires Mike Looney....Are we rushing? I know we are somewhat at a standstill until a new Superintendent is hired, but is there really a need to hurry the process? As far as I'm concerned, they can go ahead and check off those two from Butler County, they couldn't run the schools they were in charge of, although part of me has the scary feeling that maybe it's better to know what you're getting, on second thought, nah.

I agree that GHBCMS should not charge MHS for use of the facility or take the proceeds. We are all on the same team, right?? I am just tired of hearing that BCMS is a "Magnet" school when so many of our kids are transferring back to Greenville schools and finding themselves behind!!

It appears as though the Butler Co. Magnet School has some Language Arts to teach! LOL! I know it's supposed to be "ADVANCED" down there, but by the looks of the post by BCM, they just need to get basic skills down first. Unless it's a teacher, and if so, oh goodness, they've got problems!!!

The problem began when GHS was constructed. Not on Jan. 9th. The folks in charge were in such a hurry to get the building up and get it up CHEAPLY that they took low bids, and from folks who are not even in business anymore. We needed the school, it is fabulous, but there have ALWAYS been problems, with the sprinkler system, the heating and cooling systems, etc. with the poor planning of the school, for example the athletic facilities. A "closet" for the school nurse, etc, (although the nurse now has the old vocational office) The athletic facilities built within the school were severely lacking. Whoever was in charge at the time, board members, super, community leaders...they should have done their job and made sure this school was built right. PLUS, given the weather we had those two weeks, little can be done to prepare adequately for those freezing temps in the south, we just aren't built for it!!

$130,000.00??? Really BCBOE? Really? We are in proration, we can't afford supplies but we can afford to pay our new Superintendent $10,000 more than our last??? WOW.
