Former Butler County Interim Superintendent Joseph Dean was welcomed as new principal of Escambia County High School by Escambia County board members on Thursday afternoon.

Dean hired by Escambia County

Published Thursday, May 27, 2010

Joseph Dean has been hired as the new principal of Escambia County High School, according to The Atmore Advance.

Dean was unanimously approved by the Escambia County Board of Education on Thursday afternoon.

Dean served as principal of the Butler County Magnet School before being named interim superintendent in the fall of 2009 following Mike Looney's departure. He has served in that capacity ever since and was initially a candidate for the superintendent's job in Butler County before withdrawing his name.

The Butler County Board of Education named Darren Douthitt as superintendent in March.

I, along with lots of other people, knew this was coming. Look back at my previous post where I alluded to “others” that would leave our school system. How many quality leaders will we lose because of an inept and incompetent Board? Don’t take my word – find out the real reason Mr. Dean was looking elsewhere for employment instead of remaining with our system. Ask anyone in Georgiana what kind of a person we lost.

We need to stop accusing employees of using our system as a “stepping stone” and instead focus on the real reason so many of the qualified and excellent leaders leave. Many would stay here for years. There is one common problem that causes all of them to abandon our system.

Guess where Terry Wilhite that used to be with Pioneer Electric is? He is the Communications Director for Baldwin Co. Board of Education. Lost another one! Of course this is old news.

You talk about getting your feet knocked out from under you. We had just been told he would be back in Georgiana June 3rd. This is devastating news to the parents of Georgiana.

What would be the process be to go through, to have the term years that board members serve, reduced to say 2 years. That way if they are not doing the job we voted them into office to do we (excuse me, OUR CHILDREN) would not have to suffer through 6 years of incompetence like we are experiencing today. If someone has the time please investigate this and report back to us.

Good question SHS84. Maybe representative Charles Newton knows the answer or knows where to get the answer. Serving 2 years instead of 6 is a great idea.

or at the very least stagger the cycles

It is official!!!!! He turned his resignation in this morning. Mr. Dean, we really hate to see you go but good luck in your future. Boy does Mr. Douthitt have his hands full now. He seemed like a guy who is up for the challenge. Please get us someone who can guide and disipline our children and bring back the pride of a good school back to our community.

SH, without having much knowledge of it I would have to say the Board itself would have to do something like that. I suppose it all depends on who the Board answers to ultimately.
Though another pertinent question would be how to go about creating a vote of no confidence.

Like rats from a sinking ship!! In many ways it is. Organizations that function in a world class manner don't have a problem recruiting or retaining employees. Butler Co. is only a stepping stone.
