At Tuesday night’s Brantley city council meeting, the council accepted the resignation of council member Brian Morgan, who represents District Two.

Morgan recently moved outside the city limits, and council members must reside in their district.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with all the council members and enjoyed the time that I have spent there, but you’ve got to reside in your district,” he said. “When I moved to the country, I couldn’t do that anymore. I’ve enjoyed my service there.”

Morgan was in his second term as council member.

According to protocol, the council declared the seat vacant, and it will be filled at either a special-called meeting or the next council meeting.

Mayor Bernie Sullivan said he doesn’t expect the issue to require a special-called meeting, but will be addressed at next month’s meeting.
