Victor Marshall and the Butler County Magnet School Panthers head to Beatrice for the area tourney this week.
Panthers streaking at right time
Published Wednesday, February 3, 2010
The Butler County Magnet School Panthers tuned up for area tournament play with a 65-44 win over rival McKenzie on Monday night in Georgiana.
Tay Feagin scored 19 points, with Derrick Crittenden adding 15 points and 12 rebounds. LaCory Savage scored 11 for BCMS.
The Panthers appear to be hitting their stride as tourney play starts on Thursday night in Beatrice. Last week, the Panthers took No. 1 Brantley down to the wire, before falling in double-overtime to the Bulldogs 71-69. Brantley took 33 free throws to BCMS’s nine, said head coach Kirk Norris.
Adrian Rich had 23 points to lead the Panthers in that game. Victor Marshall scored 17 and Savage had 10.
“I was really proud of how our kids have played in the past week,” said Norris. “I feel as if we’re hitting stride at the right time. They bounced back after a tough road loss at Brantley and seem more focused and determined, and it showed in the last two games. We had a great crowd for senior night and was glad we could send the seniors off on the right note with a win over a county rival.”
The Panthers bounced back from the loss to Brantley by beating Highland Home handily 74-47 on Friday night. Savage posted a double-double, pulling in 11 rebounds and leading the team with 23 points. Rich had 16 and Lamar Crittenden scored 10 points.
BCMS plays against J.U. Blacksher at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the area tournament. J.F. Shields is the host team and will play the winner of the BCMS/J.U. Blacksher game.
