How were the fields plowed in the old days? Visit Old Time Farm Day on Saturday to enjoy demonstrations of farming from yesteryear.

Farm Day returns on Saturday

Published Tuesday, October 27, 2009

This Saturday, folks will have a chance to enjoy a cotton-pickin’ (and syrup-makin’ and hay-bailin’) good time as Old Time Farm Day returns to Butler County.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Oct. 31 and runs until 4 p.m. at the OTFD site off Sandcutt Road near Greenville.

Not only will the above activities be taking place, attendees can also see a working grist mill and blacksmith, basket weaving, cow milking, quilting, crocheting, mule plowing, butter churning and much, much more. Folks can also wax nostalgic over vintage Farmalls, John Deeres and McCormicks, and see equipment and tools from “way back when.”

Children’s activities will include the ever-popular pedal tractor race, boot race, face painting and animal balloons. They can also enjoy petting the calves, goats, miniature horses and donkeys on display. Cute adoptable canines from the Greenville Animal Shelter will also be looking for a fur-ever home at the Humane Society booth.

There will be jams, jellies, preserves and other homemade foods and crafts for sale, and plenty of refreshments can be purchased and enjoyed under the big pavilion at OTFD. Take a chance on winning a delicious homemade dessert during the Cake Walks.

Live entertainment and door prize drawings are slated throughout the day.

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children; children under the age of six are admitted free.

Bring your lawn chairs; please, no alcohol, coolers, four wheelers or golf carts.

To get to Old Time Farm Day, take Hwy 10 West, go one mile and turn left on County Road 25 (Sandcutt Road). Travel three miles. Farm Day is on the left.

It is great I went to the very first one and wish I could go back too bad that they decided to schedule it for a recurring date when there are many other recurring events that are much more well established. Ill never be able to go as long as its on this weekend but me and a lot of others cant wait to go back if it ever gets moved to a better date.
