CCA senior Mac Blake blocks a Coosa Valley Rebel Friday night.
Cougars claw Rebels, 21-7
Published Tuesday, October 20, 2009
CCA head coach Roland Jones and his young CCA Cougars went on the prowl last Friday night as they journeyed into Harpersville, Ala., to take on the Rebels of Coosa Valley.
The Cougars looked to post a 7-1 mark on the 2009 gridiron season.
And that feat was accomplished behind the quick running style of senior Darren Foster who had 116 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown.
CCA wasted little time in lighting up the scoreboard as they took an early 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a Foster touchdown and an Austin Brown PAT.
Bu the Rebels marched down the field late in the quarter to even the score 7-7.
The Cougars took a 14-7 lead at halftime as quarterback Pete King got his only touchdown of the game late in the second quarter as once again, Brown was true on his PAT kick to give the Cats a 7-point advantage.
After receiving the second half kickoff, the Coosa Valley offensive 11 moved the ball out across midfield, but from there, the drive came to a sudden stop as Cougar defensive back Marino Bolling picked off the Rebel pass and carried it down inside their 10-yard line.
From that point, it took the Cougars all of four plays to score their third touchdown of the game as Kyle Furr went in from the one-yard line. Austin Brown’s kick was good as CCA went up 21-7 to close out all scoring in the game and post a 7-1 record for the season so far.
The always tough and ready Cougar “D” was led by Cody Moses, who had 10 tackles, James Lester with 9 tackles, and Will Moses, who had 6 tackles.
Rann Smyth had one interception and Marino Bolling contributed with two.
CCA will travel into South Montgomery County this Friday night as they look for their eighth win of the year as they tangle with the SMCA Raiders.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Grady, Ala.
