Octoberfest, Car Show coming to Georgiana

Arts and crafts. Local and regional musicians. Festive food. Activities for the small fry. The critically acclaimed Michael Burnett, better known as “Black Elvis.”

All this, a classic car show and a street dance are coming to Hank Williams Park in south Butler County on October 10.

The Hank Williams International Fan Club is sponsoring Georgiana’s Octoberfest – the first in what organizers hope will be an annual tradition in the community.

“We are trying to offer something for everyone that day – men, women and children. We hope to get a good response,” said club board member, Sherri Brackin.

Fun giant inflatables and face painting are on tap for the kiddies. Arts and crafts booths will offer handbags, silver jewelry, knives, candles, personalized baby books, leather goods and more.

An assortment of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fish plates and drinks will be offered “at very reasonable prices,” Brackin said.

“Motorheads” will want to visit the Antique and Classic Car Show next door. Open to all makes and models prior to 1981, there are 12 entry categories, including Street Rods, European, Best of Show and Longest Distance Traveled.

The live music kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and continues “until,” Brackin says, with a lively street dance planned to close out the night.

Local talents “Night Moves” and “Back Creek,” along with Jenny Simms from Mobile and The Slim Pickins’ Band from Georgia are slated to appear. Georgia’s “Blue Collar” will take the stage from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., playing a mix of country, southern rock and classics.

Elvis fans will not want to miss “Black Elvis” Michael Burnett’s riveting performance, fan club president Mary Wallace says.

“The folks have listened to his CD at our senior center – and they thought it really was Elvis,” Wallace said.

“Michael also has all those trademark Elvis moves down pat. He is a great entertainer who has performed up and down the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. You won’t want to miss him,” Brackin added.

Michael Burnett is slated to perform two shows at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Admission to Octoberfest is free; there is a $1 admission fee for the car show.

Bring your lawn chairs; no outside coolers or drinks permitted in park.
