Diesel fuel spill in Highland Home

Published Wednesday, March 18, 2009

An accident involving a semi-tractor trailer truck along Montgomery and Davenport Highway in Highland Home Monday night around 10:15 left approximately 80 to 90 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway.

According to Stephen Wilson, president of the Highland Home Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the semi hit a light pole and broke it causing a live power line to land on the vehicle.

“We had to wait for Alabama Power to cut the electricity off so we could begin to contain the leaking fuel,” Wilson explained. “There were no injuries, thank goodness, but it took about three and a half hours to clean the road.”

Responders to the scene included Highland Home Fire and Rescue, the Luverne Volunteer Fire Department, EMA Director Jessica Tomlin-Seabrook, Crenshaw County Sheriff’s deputies, Alabama State troopers, the ALFA Team, and the Department of Transportation.
