SR-185 roadwork to continue for three weeks

Published Friday, June 5, 2009

Expect ongoing work for at least the next three weeks on College St. and Fort Dale Rd. as contractors work to repave an 8-mile stretch of State Route 185.

According to Tammy Shubert, operations officer with APAC, paving of the road will take approximately two weeks and workers will take one week repairing grass and curbing alongside the road after that.

The repaving of SR-185 is an extension of a project that began on U.S. 31. Total estimated cost for the project through Greenville is between $1.84 million and $2.25 million, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

Unlike most road repair, work on the current project is being conducted at night. Shubert said that was due to the high-congestion of traffic on Fort Dale Rd., College St. and around the I-65 exit in Greenville during the day.

Shubert said the life expectancy of the road is 10 years.
