Dozier man arrested for domestic violence

A Dozier man was arrested Friday night, May 29, and charged with domestic violence and assault after he hit a woman in the head with a hammer.
Crenshaw County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mack Lawson, 54, after answering a call to Merrill Street in Dozier after the female victim called 911.
“Mr. Lawson said they were watching wrestling and they disagreed over it, and things got carried away,” Investigator Ronnie White said. “But we noticed they were watching the ‘Lifetime’ channel, not wrestling.”
Investigator Heath Truman said that, according to the female victim, Lawson put his hand over her face after they began arguing about whether or not she could go to a friend’s house. Truman said she then picked up a hammer to defend herself, and Lawson took the hammer away from her and hit her in the head with it twice.
“There was blood in the bathroom and blood splattered on the walls everywhere,” Truman said.
Lawson was charged with domestic violence, first degree, and assault, first degree.
The victim was taken to Crenshaw Community Hospital, and Lawson was taken to the Crenshaw County jail.
Deputy Jerry Pritchett also responded to the scene of the incident.
