Published Thursday, April 16, 2009

Ending with a 16-7 record in the regular season, the Brantley Bulldogs are celebrating the 1A Area 4 championship and are also heading to the state playoffs.

They are currently ranked fifth in the state in Class 1A Area 4.

Brantley defeated Ariton 7-4 last Friday in Ariton, and then hosted the Purple Cats only to beat them again 20-13.

Brantley will now host Kinston in the first round of the AHSAA state playoffs Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

“Jared Hall and Stephen Walker both hit home runs in the third inning last Friday (against Ariton) to lead the come-from-behind win,” said Ashley Kilcrease, BHS head baseball coach. “We were down 8-2 until these two hit homeruns.”

Last Thursday in Ariton, Walker pitched a complete game, and Adam Hill had three hits to the lead the way offensively for the Bulldogs.

Also, Chase Hall has been chosen to play in the North-South Baseball All-Star Game in Huntsville July 13.
