Vern Flowers with Luverne Rescue talked to students about driver safety during the "Prom Promise" exercise at E.L. Turner Park Wednesday morning.

Reality Check

Published Thursday, April 2, 2009

Over 500 juniors and seniors from Luverne School, Brantley School, Highland Home School, Crenshaw Christian Academy and McKenzie School got a reality check as they witnessed fire and rescue personnel respond to an “accident” scene that had been caused by a drunk driver at E.L. Turner Park Wednesday morning.

Emergency personnel involved in the campaign to make teens think twice before they get behind the wheel of a car included members from Luverne Fire and Rescue, Brantley Fire and Rescue, Highland Home VFD, Honoraville VFD, Fullers Crossroads VFD, Luverne Police Department, the ALFA Team, Crenshaw County EMA, and Crenshaw Community Hospital.

The driver safety campaign is especially being pushed as prom season approaches for area high schools.

Vern Flowers with Luverne Rescue talked to the students about driver safety. Later, students watched as the victims were removed and transported either into an ambulance or a hearse.
