Mark your calendars now for Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, for the 21st annual Crenshaw County Rodeo.
The rodeo will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. at the Tom Harbin Ag Center on Airport Road in Luverne. Advanced tickets are on sale now for children 12 and under at $4 each, and advanced adults' tickets are $8 each. Tickets at the gate are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
Rodeo tickets may be purchased from First Citizens Bank in Luverne, The Luverne Journal office, or from any Luverne Kiwanis Club member.
This year, children 12 and under who are wearing a 2008 Crenshaw County Rodeo T-shirt can get in free. No other shirts of any kind will be accepted for free admission.
Rodeo T-shirts are still on sale at First Citizens Bank and at The Luverne Journal office on South Forest Avenue.
This year, rodeo spectators can look forward to a full slate of different rodeo events with entertainment being provided in between each event.
In addition, each rodeo will conclude with everyone's favorite event, bull riding.
Another favorite for all rodeo fans will be the Mutton Bustin' competition for the youth as well as the Calf Scramble, which will take place during intermissions.
Programs will be given out at the gates, which include rodeo "lingo" and how the rodeo events are scored. Also, plenty of good food and refreshments will be available for purchase.
The Crenshaw County Rodeo is sponsored by the Luverne Kiwanis Club and is sanctioned by the Professional Cowboys' Association. It is produced by Bo Campbell Rodeo Productions from Robertsdale, Ala.
The Crenshaw County Rodeo is the Kiwanis Club's biggest fundraiser of the year. The Kiwanis Club supports several scholarships for area students, as well as giving donations to children and families in need.
"We appreciate everyone's help and support with the rodeo," Luverne Kiwanis Club President Shaun Wilcox said. "This is a great tradition for our county, and we want everyone to come out and have a good time."
So, pull on your cowboy boots and slap on that Stetson hat and get ready to rodeo! |
