McKenzie downs Florala in double-header

The McKenzie Tigers hosted the Florala Wildcats in a non-conference double header Monday with back-to-back wins, 8-4 and 10-0.

William Brown started on the mound for the Tigers and held the Wildcats scoreless in the first two innings.

Chris Shufford scored one run for McKenzie in the bottom of the first inning, putting the Tigers on the board first.

In the bottom of the third inning, McKenzie was able to get the bats moving at the plate.  After a single by Weston Keeney, the next batter struck out, bringing Shufford to the plate and he singled.

The Tigers had players on first and second when Seth Keeney walked, loading the bases in the process and bringing up shortstop Jackson Vickery, who drove one to centerfield for a double that scored two runs.

Tigers’ pitcher William Brown, facing the Wildcats pitcher, managed to hit a double, bringing in Vickery before the inning came to a close with the Tigers leading 5 to 1.

The Wildcats were only able to score 3 more runs in the remainder of the game, but the Tigers tacked on 3 points as the game came to an end in the top of the seventh with the score 8 to 4.

In the second game the Tigers jumped out front of the Wildcats and never looked back, winning in five innings 10 to 0.

Chris Shufford finished the evening with 4 runs and 3 hits.

Seth Keeney ended with 2 runs. Jackson Vickery had 5 hits, 2 doubles and brought in 2 RBI’s and crossed the plate once.

William Brown had 1 double, and Weston Keeney added 1 hit and 1 run.

William Brown faced 20 batters, and Jackson Vickery took over at the top of sixth inning and faced 10 batters .

The McKenzie Tigers’ record for the 2017 season stands at 6 and 10.
