Super Foods Supermarkets has been named a finalist for the 2016 Alabama Retailer of the Year awards. Owner John M. Wilson will be honored Oct. 18 in Birmingham by the Alabama Retail Association in cooperation with the UAB Collat School of Business during the Alabama Retail Day luncheon.  Wilson and Super Foods Supermarkets were nominated by Francine Wasden, the executive director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce. “We’re excited to have an opportunity to nominate Super Foods for this award,” said Wasden.  “Super Foods is a community minded business and they are very supportive and involved in our local community and area events.”

Super Foods Supermarkets, with locations in Greenville, Evergreen and Luverne, is one of 13 finalists for the 2016 Alabama Retailer of the Year awards. A panel of judges representing the media, Chambers of Commerce, retail developers, retailers and the academic community, selected 12 of the finalists from a pool of more than 70 nominated retail and restaurant owners, 41 of which submitted entries. The public chose one of the finalists through a poll on the Alabama Retail Association’s Facebook page. Other finalists include retailers with locations in Alabaster, Auburn, Birmingham, Clanton, Cottondale, Cullman, Daphne, Dothan, Fairhope, Florence, Fort Morgan, Gadsden, Gulf Shores, Homewood, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Mountain Brook, Northport, Orange Beach, Prattville, Tuscaloosa, Trussville, Scottsboro and Wetumpka.

“The Alabama Retail Association is proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of these businesses,” said ARA President Rick Brown. “They truly exemplify the enormous impact retailers have on their respective communities and the entire state of Alabama.”

The finalists represent four levels of annual sales and include emerging as well as veteran retailers. The level of the individual awards will be announced at the Oct. 18 awards luncheon.

“To be nominated for the Alabama Retailer of the Year Award is truly an honor, said John Wilson.  “It’s the hard work of our dedicated employees that makes our grocery store stand out.  They work so hard each and every day to make sure our customers are taken care of. There are so many businesses in Alabama deserving of recognition, and I’m truly honored and humbled that our store was nominated.”

The Alabama Retailer of the Year awards program, started in 1999, honors outstanding retailers who have demonstrated growth, innovation and a commitment to their respective communities.

The Alabama Retail Association represents retailers, the largest private employer in the state of Alabama, before the Alabama Legislature and the U.S. Congress. Through sales of food, clothing, furniture, medicine and more, our 4,100 independent merchant and national company members touch almost every aspect of daily living. Since 1943, we’ve worked to promote what’s best for the retail industry in Alabama. Whether voicing the retail view when public policy is made, educating members about issues that impact them, negotiating rates for benefits and services or communicating the retail story, the Alabama Retail Association and its members are better together.
