LBW Community College announced Monday that Chrissie Duffy of Andalusia will serve as the commencement speaker at the annual graduation ceremony to be held May 13 at the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia.

“We are looking forward to the advice that Chrissie Duffy will bring to our graduates based on her real-world experience of being in business and business recruitment,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.

Daughter of Alabama’s “breadwinner” Sister Schubert, Duffy said she has always had a passion for small business and community development.

“At an early age, I watched and learned as my mother grew her bakery business from the kitchen to the board room,” she said.

She attended Auburn University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business.

After she and husband, Kevin, started their family, they chose to relocate to Andalusia.

“We knew it was a great place to raise our four children,” she said. “We wanted to open a business of our own and realized that Andalusia provided a great environment for business to work together and thrive.”

Duffy now serves as executive director for the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce, working to promote Covington County’s business community and improve the quality of life for all that call Andalusia home.

In order to collaborate her efforts, she serves on many boards and committees, including the City of Andalusia Tourism and Relocation Committee, LBWCC Foundation Board of Directors, Health Services Advisory Board, Lower Alabama Arts Coalition Board, and the Governor’s Committee for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities.

LBWCC’s graduation program is set for 7 p.m.
