For the sixth consecutive year, Hyundai Motor America has posted record sales in the U.S., according to company officials.

The company saw a 5 percent increase over its 2014 sales. In 2015, Hyundai sold 761,710 vehicles in the U.S.

“Hyundai once again experienced a record year and the CUV segment proved to be the star,” said Derrick Hatami, vice president of national sales for Hyundai Motor America. “Not only did Tucson end the year with sales up 34 percent, but for the month of December we experienced a 167 percent sales gain over last December. ”

The Elantra proved to be the company’s best seller. The South Korea-based automaker sold 241,706 of the sedan, which is assembled in Montgomery. The Sonata, also assembled in Montgomery, was another top-seller. There were 213,303 Sonatas sold in 2015.

Greenville-based Hwashin America produces chassis and body components for Hyundai’s Sonata, Elantra and Santa Fe.
