Since 2000, the Butler County Farmers Federation has been awarding scholarships to deserving students.

On Tuesday, the organization recognized its latest crop of recipients at a reception at Cambrian Ridge.

“This year we were able to award six scholarships,” said Carey Thompson, chairman of the BCFF Scholarship Committee. “We try to help as many students as we can each year based on the amount of money we have and the students’ needs. We’re excited to be able to recognize these students today.”

The following students were chosen for their academic excellence and active participation in school and community: Morgan Burkett, Georgiana School; Lindsey Odom, Georgiana School; John Coleman Poole, Fort Dale Academy; James Burkett, Fort Dale Academy; Nedra Toulmin Crosby, Fort Dale Academy; and Andy Burns, LBW Community College.

According to Thompson, students attending a four-year college or university will receive $1,000, while students attending a two-year college or trade school will receive $500.

Thompson said that in the last 14 years, the BCFF has presented 75 students with scholarships.
