McKenzie School edged J.U. Blacksher High School 5-3 on Tuesday.

“I am happy for our guys getting the win against a very solid baseball team in J.U. Blacksher,” said McKenzie head coach Tony Norris. “We just have to keep working on improving ourselves. It was a good area win but we have to put that behind us and look ahead to the next game.”

Harper Vinson helped lead the McKenzie charge.

At the plate, Vinson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. He also earned the complete-game victory on the mound and struck out 12 batters, while surrendering just four hits.

“Harper came up big for us on the mound this game,” Norris said. “We needed a really good performance on the mound and he was able to give us that and then some.”

Jeffrey Fuller was 1-for-4 with an RBI in the win, while Nicarius Peterson also finished the game 1-for-4.

“We only had four strikeouts at the plate, but I felt like we didn’t center the ball up like we should have on several occasions,” Norris said.

The Tigers will be back in action Monday when they take on Hillcrest.
