FDA offense shines in victory

No. 6 Fort Dale Academy racked up 629 yards of total offense en route to a 45-38 win over Coosa Valley Academy Friday night in Harpersville.

The Fort Dale offense was led by senior quarterback Chip Taylor, who accounted for 387 yards and four touchdowns.

Taylor completed 11-of-18 pass attempts for 260 yards and three touchdowns, while leading the Eagles’ ground attack with 127 yards on nine carries. He also scored on a 58-yard run.

Junior running back Ryan Burkett accounted for four touchdowns, and rushed for 104 yards on 12 carries. He scored on runs of 2 yards and 28 yards, and was on the receiving end of 76-yard and 86-yard touchdown passes.

Sophomore Austin Vickery hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass.

Senior Chase Whiddon led the Eagles’ defense with 14 tackles, while junior Sawyer Kendrick had 12 stops. Taylor, junior Caleb Whigham and senior Deaton Owens each recovered a fumble.

The Eagles (2-0, 1-0 Class AAA, Region 2) will travel to Hope Hull next Friday to face Hooper Academy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
