GHS gearing up to stop run

Greenville High School has a pretty good idea of what to expect from Anniston High School Friday night.

“They are going to line up in the I and run it downhill,” GHS head coach Earnest Hill said. “That’s what they did last year, and that’s what they’re going to do again this year.”

It was a formula that worked well for Anniston in last year’s season opener against Greenville. The Bulldogs scored 27 points, the second most points the team scored all season, en route to a win at Tiger Stadium.

“They have a big offensive line,” Hill said. “They are athletic and they have some very fast kids. We’re going to have to come to play on defense.”

In last week’s preseason game against Vigor High School, the Tigers surrendered 40 points, including 33 in the first half.

“We’ve worked at trying to clean up some of the mistakes we made last week,” Hill said. “I think that game helped us get rid of some of the jitters that come with playing a first game. The kids came back Sunday with a lot of intensity and we had a good practice (Monday). I think our kids will be ready to play.”

Greenville and Anniston will square off Friday at 7 p.m. in Anniston.
