William Weldon (Bill) Springer

William Weldon (Bill) Springer, 78, passed away on Jan. 7, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather (“Granddaddy”) and loyal friend to many. He owned and managed Springer Feed & Poultry Company for 20 years in Greenville, Ala., and surrounding areas and worked in real estate, commodities, and investments in the years following in Montgomery. Mr. Springer served the church over the years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and finance committee member. He and his family are faithful members of the Vaughn Park Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Doyle Springer Sr. and Flora Rushing Springer.  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eugenia (Genie) Thagard Springer; two daughters, Leigh (Brian) Mitchell and Sherri Lynn Springer; two grandsons, Andrew Mitchell and Blake Mitchell; his brother, Otis Doyle (Mary) Springer, Jr. and niece and nephews, Robert (Betty) Springer, Carrie Springer, William (Paulette) Springer, and Ken (Kathy) Springer. The funeral service, officiated by Brad Sullivan and Sam Cooper, will be held Saturday, January 12 at 10 a.m. at Leak-Memory with a graveside service following.  Pallbearers will be his three nephews, Gordon Moore, Jim Vines, and Ernest McArthur.  Honorary pallbearers will be the elders of the Vaughn Park Church of Christ and George Mitchell.
