Georgiana School steamrolled its way to a 75-34 victory over in-county rival McKenzie School as the Panthers climb to 13-4 on the season and 2-0 in Class 1A, Area 3.

The eighth-ranked Panthers did so with an impressive amount of offense from various sources, with four scorers tallying double digits and combining for 55 points on the night.

Freshman Richard Boggan and sophomore Devin McMeans led all scorers with 17 points apiece, and seniors Justin Oikle and Cameron Matthews contributed 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

“I thought we got solid production from a lot of guys against McKenzie,” Georgiana head coach Kirk Norris said. “I thought our defense was better than it had been lately and we played well as a unit.”

But the Panthers’ composure throughout the season thus far has arguably been even more impressive than their display of talent on the court.

Despite being a relatively young squad, the team has maintained a certain level of focus that belies their experience.

Norris said that he’s been pleased with how his players have played so far this season.

“Losing eight seniors and three more players before the season could have set us back, but we’ve had some young guys step up and shoulder the load,” Norris said. “They have done a good job staying focused because they are hungry to succeed and build their own legacy. I always tell them not to be satisfied with what they’ve done, but to keep working to become better and keep improving.”

C.J. Pugh led the Tigers with 15 points.

Georgiana will host Sweetwater High School Saturday. B-team action will begin at 2 p.m. with varsity action slated to follow.
