Basketball Roundup: No. 6 Georgiana rolls past Pleasant Home

Three players reached double figures in scoring to lift No. 6 Georgiana School to a 58-31 win over Pleasant Home High School Thursday night in the first round of the Straughn High School Christmas Shootout.

Jacquez Payton led the Panthers’ scoring attack with 12 points.

Justin Oikle and Tarien Crittenden each added 10 points in the win.

Pleasant Home was led by Lance Davis’ 21 points.

With the win, Georgiana improved to 6-0 on the season.

 

No. 7 Eagles remain unbeaten

Fort Dale Academy cruised to a 56-39 win over Wilcox Academy Tuesday night in Greenville.

Chip Taylor led Fort Dale’s offensive charge with 18 points and six assists.

Taylor was 6-for-14 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Ryan Burkett chipped in 11 points in just 15 minutes of play.

Burkett was 4-for-5 from the field and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down five rebounds for the Eagles, who outrebounded the Wildcats 46-27.

Ryan Salter added nine points and three steals in the win. Salter was 2-for-2 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

With the win the Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season.

No. 7 Fort Dale will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Lee-Scott Academy. Junior varsity play will begin at 2 p.m. with varsity action set to follow.

 

Lady Wildcats best Lady Eagles

Wilcox Academy edged No. 9 Fort Dale 43-39 Monday night.

Anne Matthews led Fort Dale with 15 points.

Mary Sanford Perdue added seven points, while Theresa Scott and Nedra Toulmin Crosby each added six points. Caroline Snellgrove chipped in five points for the Lady Eagles.
