Luverne vs Zion Chapel

There are times when I’ll gladly eat a serving of crow, and last week is one of those cases.

The Tigers surprised almost everyone by going to Elba and beating them.

That win gives them a leg up in the region, and they’re looking to close it out with a strong finish against Zion Chapel this week and New Brockton next week.

Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t look like these two teams have ever played each other.

The Rebels’ wins this year have come against Calhoun, Central, Kinston and New Brockton, none of which I would classify as a good team with the possible exception of New Brockton.

I think Luverne moves to 6-0 in the region unless there’s a huge letdown after last week.

Highland Home vs Goshen

Highland Home gutted one out last week against Calhoun, a team that seems to be playing better the longer the season goes on.

This week they take on Goshen, and while the Eagles have had several losses this year, they’ve been competitive in most of those games.

I saw the Goshen-Luverne game earlier this year, and Goshen’s offense is one of the most unusual I’ve seen recently.

Just watching it from the sidelines, it looks like the triple option crossed with a rugby scrum.

If Highland Home can stop the run, I think they can handle Goshen, but it will probably be a close game.

Highland Home 20, Goshen 13

CCA at Springwood

Crenshaw Christian wrapped up a playoff berth last week, so this last region game of the year doesn’t mean much in the long run.

Springwood comes into the matchup with a 1-7 record, and their only win coming against SMCA.

I look for CCA to jump on them early and then cruise to a win.

CCA 42, Springwood 20

Brantley at Pleasant Home

Brantley continued their roll through the region last week with a thorough trouncing of McKenzie.

The Pleasant Home Eagles are up next, and I don’t expect their all-time record of 1-11 against Brantley to improve.

The Eagles have managed to come up with a 4-3 record so far this season, but the Bulldogs are by far the best team they’ve seen so far.

Brantley 56, Pleasant Home 6

Last week: 3-1

Overall 21-5
