No. 9 FDA runs past defending champs

No. 9 Fort Dale Academy ran past defending state champion Bessemer Academy Friday night — literally.

The Eagles rushed for 284 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 41-20 win over the Rebels.

FDA junior quarterback Chip Taylor ran for scores of 20 yards and 68 yards and threw for a 17-yard score in the win. Senior Ryan Salter was on the receiving end of Chip Taylor’s touchdown toss.

Senior Ryan Taylor ran for a 1-yard touchdown, while junior Chase Whiddon and sophomore Ryan Burkett scored on runs of five yards and two yards, respectively.

The Eagles dominated the game, racing out to a 35-6 lead by the half and never looking back.

Whiddon led the defense with 13 tackles and an interception, while senior Cade Tillery added 10 stops.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season. Fort Dale will be back in action Friday when it hosts Edgewood Academy.
