Leroy Gandy

Funeral services for the late Rev. Leroy Gandy were held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. from St. Francis Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Lewis, officiating minister. Burial followed in Springhill Church cemetery. Hudson Funeral Services, Greenville, Ala. directed.

Rev. Leroy Gandy was born Jan. 6, 1946 to Myree Gandy and the late Mr. Ervin Gandy in Georgiana, Ala. He was educated in the Butler County School System, graduating in 1966. He accepted Christ at an early age by serving as a junior deacon and usher. Rev. Gandy accepted his call to preach the gospel in 1980 at Springhill Baptist Church in Georgiana, Ala. then was spiritually nurtured and trained under the leadership and guidance of Rev. L. C Lewis while attending Easonian Baptist Seminary. He was willing to run all the way for the Lord and was consistently involved in service as a pastor of New Oak Grove Baptist Church (6 years), New Hope Baptist (17 years), and New Western Baptist (1 year); and Dean of Christian Education in the Southeast District Congress of Butler and Crenshaw Counties. Rev. Gandy was a Christian man, a father, a grandfather, a son, an uncle, a brother and a husband.

He fulfilled this life on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at 3:30 a.m. at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, Ala.  He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Jenell Gandy; mother Myree Gandy of Georgiana, Ala.; mother-in-law Queenie Knight of McKenzie, Ala.; siblings Willie Lee (Elizabeth) Gandy of Youngstown, Ohio; Gladys Gandy of Youngstown, Ohio; Dorothy (Al) Tillman of Georgiana, Ala.; Margaret Ann Gandy of Georgiana, Ala.; and Lester (Gayle) Gandy of Columbus, Ohio; two sister-in-laws Patricia Miller of Winter Haven, Fla. and Sylvia Knight of McKenzie, Ala.; brother-in-law Jerry Knight of McKenzie, Ala.; two children, Vannie B. Riley, Lodie Bailey of Mixonville, three step-children Narvaez (Shekia) Stinson of Atlanta, Ga., Antwuan (Audra) Stinson of Greenville, Ala., and David Robertson of McKenzie, Ala.; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews; god-parents Roy Gandy and Eula Gandy; and eight god-sisters and brothers.
