A 21-year old man has been arrested and charged with third-degree burglary following a break in at the Shell Deli Mart on Sept. 14.

Chase Thagard allegedly threw a brick through the glass door at the Shell Deli Mart on East Commerce Street and stole approximately $200.

“Basically, what we did, we just got the evidence that we had collected at the scene and we were able to process from that and develop the suspect,” said Lt. Justin Lovvorn of the Greenville Police Department. “Once we got him in there to interview, I confronted him with what we knew already and what we had collected at the scene and he gave me a full statement and confessed to it.”

However, this is not the end of arrests or charges, according to Lovvorn.

The GPD believes Thagard has been involved with other burglaries in the area and is part of a larger organization conducting these acts.

“We do expect more arrests in the next few days and possibly additional charges on this subject, because we believe we’re going to be able to connect him to some more burglaries that were similar and around the same time,” Lovvorn said. “We feel pretty confident in making additional arrests in the future. There was only one person that went in that particular store, but we feel that he was involved with several others that were doing the same thing.”
