Qualifying ends for municipal elections

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, qualifying closed for local municipal elections.  Elections for Luverne, Brantley, Glenwood, Petrey, Rutledge and Dozier will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

The following candidates have qualified for election:

 

Luverne

Mayor: Joe Rex Sport
District 1: Charlie Johnson
District 2: Kip Smith
District 3: Wanda Williams and Jerry Sipper
District 4: Randall Parker
District 5: Pat Walker

As of last week, Roy Johnston had qualified to run for the office of Luverne mayor, however, Johnston has withdrawn from the race.

 

Brantley
Mayor: Bernie Sullivan
District 1: Lorey Bogen, Darryl Elliott
District 2: Steve Walker, Judy Woolley, Kris Odom

 

Rutledge
Mayor: Joe Dexter Flynn
At-large council seats: Beth Rogers, Dany Garner, Eddie Stroud, Chris Hilburn and Geraldine Franklin

 

Petrey
Mayor: Phillip Swindle
At-large council seats: Laura Elliott, Patsy Jeffcoat, Don Hermeling, Elwood Farris and Bobby Beasley

 

Glenwood
Mayor: Dan Jackson, Jr.
District 1: Scott W. Stricklin, Billy W. Knight
District 2: Boyd Berry, John D. Johnson, Mary H. West.

 

Dozier

Mayor: Karen Davis, William L. Hester, Anne Holland

District 1: Cynthia Doss, Marquita Davis, Emma Jane Ellison, Robert Thomas

District 2: Roger Moody, Carlos “Buddy” Dean, Bobby Sims, Linda Hutto, Chelsea Hester

 

As of last week, Jan Cook had qualified to run for the office of Dozier mayor, however, Cook has withdrawn from the race.
